On Saturday, September 2, 2023, the nearly 100-year-old Willet Green Miller commemorative plaque was stolen. Located adjacent to the Cobalt Historical Society Headframe office in downtown Cobalt, and across from the post office, this plaque honoured Miller, the first Provincial Geologist of Ontario who gave Cobalt its name. A reward for its safe return has been offered. If anyone has any information at all regarding this theft, please call the Timiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police.
