Researchers Rejoice!
While visiting the Cobalt Mining Museum recently, we noticed the small booklet, pictured above. It is the Voters’ List, Municipality of the Town of Cobalt, District of Temiskaming, 1922.
A. W. Harrington, Town Clerk, posted the list on October 18, 1922.
What a bonanza!
Of course we scanned it and it is now available for download on our Research Information page. Scroll down to the bottom of the list to find the entry, or click on this link to go directly to the document. It is a large file.
Twenty-two lists in all
The Town was divided into three wards – North, Centre, and South.
Each of these wards were futher subdivided into polling subdivisions. There were eleven in total.
Each of these subdivisions has two lists. One represents the people entitled to vote at Municipal Elections only, and the second list includes “persons entitled to vote at Municipal Elections and at Elections to the Legislative Assembly.”
Lots of Detail
Each of twenty-two lists is arranged alphabetically, by last name. You’ll find the person’s occupation, the lot and concession number as well as the civic street address. The finaly column indicates if they had title to vote, or be named a juror.
