We received an email which read:
My father, grandfather, and uncle worked at the O’Brien Mine early 1930s till 1939. I have found in my uncle’s papers a list of men who worked at the mine during his time.
- Father: William (Bill) Chayko [miner and driller/blasting]. I think played hockey for the O’Brien Mine
- Grandfather John Chayko[stationary engineer]
- Uncle James (Jim) Chayko [miner].
All have long passed away. My uncle figured this information could go to the history of the mine.
The writer wondered if we were intertested in the six pages of 130 names of the men and their occupations. Of course you know our answer!
Below is the list prepared by Uncle Jim Chayko. We have transcribed the document to a searchable PDF file. You can find it on our Research Resources page.
Remember the school and annex. A little small for gym but we did play basketball there.
Hi Reginald – Thanks for your comments – you probably know this, but in case others do not, the “Annex” was originally built as a Masonic Temple.
